The prevention and treatment of cognitive decline have been at the center of neuroscience research in recent years. The FINGER study (Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability) has demonstrated that a multidimensional lifestyle intervention—including diet, physical activity, cognitive training, and vascular risk monitoring—can slow cognitive decline in older adults at risk of dementia. This study laid the foundation for the FINGER model, which has since inspired numerous international studies, including LETHE.
LETHE is a Horizon 2020 project designed to prevent cognitive decline in an ageing population at an early time point by a multi-domain interventional lifestyle approach built on a person-centred digital solution.
In line with these groundbreaking studies, and as partner of the Lethe project, UPG (University of Perugia) is proud to participate in the Brain Awareness Week in Umbria with a special theoretical-practical event dedicated to cognitive stimulation. This initiative is designed to bridge scientific research and practical application, making the latest advances in cognitive health accessible to the study participants and general public.
Our event will include an introduction by Prof. Patrizia Mecocci about prevention and its practical implications, followed by hands-on cognitive training activities. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in exercises designed to enhance memory, attention, and problem-solving skills, guided by experts in neuropsychology Dr. Anna Giulia Guazzarini e Dr. Ilenia Murasecco.
The Brain Awareness Week represents a crucial opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of brain health and proactive interventions. UPG is committed to promoting scientifically validated approaches to cognitive well-being and providing individuals with effective tools to maintain mental agility.
Follow us in this stimulating journey into the science of cognition and discover how small daily changes can lead to significant improvements in brain health. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against cognitive decline”.
